Capacity Building Supports - Support Coordination
This is the fifth instalment in our NDIS Funding Categories series where we discuss what plan categories are available and what they can be used for.
The first 4 blogs in the series covered Core Supports and we're now moving on to Capacity Building Supports. The first instalment is about Support Coordination funding.
Part 5 - Support Coordination

Support Coordination is funded for participants to help make the best use of the supports in your plan. A Support Coordinator can help you to:
- Understand and use your NDIS plan to pursue your goals
- Connect you with NDIS providers, community, mainstream and other government services
- Build your confidence and skills to use and coordinate your supports
- Assist you through the NDIS review process to ensure you receive funding that is adequate to your needs
The Support Coordination funding category can also include funding for a Psychosocial Recovery Coach. Psychosocial Recovery Coaches are able to provide support to participants with psychosocial disabilities to help increase their independence, social participation and economic participation.
Often the funding provided in a participant's Support Coordination budget will be stated meaning that the NDIS will designate whether the funding is to be used for Support Coordination or Psychosocial Recovery Coaching, but if the funding is not stated then it's up to you as the participant to decide which service you think would benefit you the most - or to utilise a combination of both.
